Disordered Eating Therapy
for women who want to learn how to stop binge eating and dieting
Transform your Life Not your Body
Disordered eating is an umbrella term that is used when someone’s relationship with food is harmful or hurtful to them. You may not meet the criteria for having an eating disorder diagnosis but you may be struggling with food in a variety of ways. This includes people of all sizes, shapes and gender.
My approach is to help you resolve the root cause of these issues and to be curious about how your attitudes and behaviors about food and body have been used to manage other symptoms.
Our beliefs about our body are formulated at a very young age as a result of how we internalize our experiences and what we learn from parents, caretakers, television, books and magazines, friends, teachers, caretakers and society in general. The influence of diet culture is vast.
As a relational EMDR therapist, I will take this journey of investigation along with you as we collaborate to understand how your current everyday experiences are associated with this past learning.
The behaviors that have developed have served a protective function and often provide a sense of control and comfort when you are distressed. Over time these adaptations have grown bigger and seem to have taken on a life of their own.
Recognizing the beneficial roles these behaviors serve, without judgment, and fostering a compassionate understanding of your relationship with food and body can help to reduce shame and support the development of healthier coping strategies.
Hi, I'm Lynn!
I am a licensed therapist, a certified EMDR clinician and CIT, and a certified Intuitive Eating counselor. I specialize in working with women who experience disordered eating. Using Intuitive Eating principles and EMDR therapy, I will help you ditch dieting forever, trust your body, and feel free!
My Approach
I use Intuitive Eating principles to help you navigate the day-to-day issues that you face relating to food and eating or restricting. This helps you develop awareness of the physical signals coming from your body.
EMDR therapy helps to change the false beliefs that you may have about yourself, your worth, and how these beliefs show up as chronic disordered behavior around food.
These beliefs are typically learned and internalized in childhood and continue to be active in adulthood. They may include beliefs about not being good enough, about having to be perfect, or feeling compelled to meet certain rigid standards of appearance or health in order to feel a sense of worth.
